Norway Here We Come

In January, I learned that I was selected as a Fulbright Roving Scholar in Norway. Since then, we have been planning and preparing for our year in Oslo. From filing for Residency in Norway to STILL waiting on Chris to get a winter jacket, we’ve done lots of preparing.

If you want to learn more about what workshops I’ll be offering around Norway you can find them on my Workshops Page. If you want to see where I’m going and where I’ve been, check out my Google Map. When we get to Norway and I get started this will become more interactive and updated regularly.

Lucy and I got these fortunes on July 1st.

Until then, here’s a bit about preparing for Norway and our adventures.

Jack had decided that Norway will be better than starting junior high and now I’m hoping his feet stop growing so I won’t have to buy even more soccer cleats, boots, and sneakers in Norway.

Lucy said she would go if we would spend three days in Paris and find her friends that speak English.

Chris just needs a winter jacket.

We’re getting our house packed up, spending a great deal of time using our Amazon Prime membership to get what we need, and stocking up on things like shampoo and aspirin since apparently, these are things it’s suggested we bring with us.

Our plane tickets are purchased and we leave on August 1st. Before that time, I still need to figure out exactly what to do to make sure our cars run when they come back, get all our doctor appointments in, figure out the best way to deal with our cell phones, get Jack to one more surgery, get to a minor-league baseball game, and whatever else it is we need to make sure we do before we leave.

We’re excited about the opportunity. Jack plans on playing soccer in Norway. He also hopes he can find a baseball team, but not sure if that will happen. Lucy will play piano and swim. Chris is bringing one of his guitars and King Neptune is hoping to have some Scandinavian gigs. I’m looking forward to spending time with high school students and not having to grade anything for a YEAR!!!!

Yes, Reno is an adorable cat.

But we will miss our friends and our home and Reno the Cat (who is being watched by some grad students

who are house sitting). So, this blog is two-fold. It is a way to share about what I learn as a Roving Scholar and also to keep you updated on our lives in Norway and how we navigate the land.

I will try and be diligent about updating this blog once we get to Norway. If you’re lucky I’ll do so once a week. I’ll also post lots of photographs here and on Instagram. Please follow along and enjoy our adventures.
